How to Make a Car in Photoshop

This is more of a guide rather than a tutorial, i will not explain step by
step how to do things. You are expected to know how to airbrush and be pretty
good with photoshop before doing this tutorial. Don't expect to finish this
tutorial in 10 minutes and have good results. Its not going to happen.

We will be making an image of the BMW Z4. This car is pretty complexed and
has allot of awkward curves and bumps

So, we just start with the body shape of the Z4. This is the base colour, notice
how this includes no wheels or anything that isn't 'part of the body' Its a
good idea to keep all of your layers named as my final result had little over
100 layers.

You will need to use the circular marquee for the next step. just gradually
adding the highlights. The car is still in its early stages yet so no great
detail is required.

Now, just add a few basic shades to go along with the highlights. This will
make the car start to take shape. Again, no detail is required

This step we define the sides and shapes more adding indents to the body. These
are simply a light line, next to a dark line to give an intended effect. Flip
it over, you get an out-dented effect. I started thinking about the windscreen.
Just put a blue sheet in to remind me that it was there.

The next step is easier than it looks. The window has now become a gradient,
and a hold with the logo had gone onto the front and side ends of the car.

Adding wheels is simple. You make the wheels, and make the rims spin with a
radial blur. The grill was added with little detail to keep simplicity along
with the registration place. Now we can start to build the car up.

At this point, you will probably think 'that shouldn't be there' or 'this doesn't
look right' Saving your work as a different file name is very help full! Here
i took a big step towards finishing the car, the grill above where the bumper
should be and the headlight. The headlight was added by about 10 different colour's
just put together randomly which resulted in a glassy effect (lucky ey?) A reflection
is simply added with the pen tool and faded out to give a more realistic look.
The mirror at the side was added by a couple of highlights and shadows using
airbrushing.

An 'extra', aerial was added and i touched a few things up that were, not quite
working or in the wrong place.

The interior was simple, the seats were just shapes made by the pen tool with
added with just a touch of shading and highlighting to them - Not forgetting
the steering wheel!

This is the final version. This took me the best part of 3 hours to write the
tutorial and do the images and everything. If you have put the time and the
effort in... it should turn out pretty decent... if your lazy... it'll turn
out not worth having!
